I recently made a big boo-boo, while attempting to upgrade iOS on Cisco 9200-24 I added the new ios on the device 2 times, when i attempted to run the device did not have enough memory to run so it errored out, I thought I would just remove the files but did it with the delete command and now when the switch boots, it boots into switch:
USB 0 and 1 are not recognized and there is no ios to load so the device is a paperweight, any idea how to get into at least rommon to load a copy of the ios, boot and repair this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like your packages.conf messed up, and trying to boot from flash:/user/cat9k_lite-rpboot.17.03.05.SPA.pkg - that folder not exists and also cat9k_lite-rpboot.17.03.05.SPA.pkg
you only have all files: 16.11.01.SPA.pkg
Note: you have a USB issue, get new USB stick with less capacity of 16GB.
download cat9k_litexxxxxxxxxxxx.bin file from cisco site.
switch: boot usbflash0:cat9k_litexxxxxxxxxxxx.bin
switch>enable
switch#copy usbflash0:cat9k_litexxxxxxxxxxxx.bin
switch#conf t
switch(config)#boot system flash:packages.conf
switch(config)#exit
switch(config)#wr mem
switch#show boot (verify)
#system install add file flash:cat9k_litexxxxxxxxxxxx.bin activate commit
it ask you to reload. (once switch comeback prompt) - then you can clean up old files

Hey Balaji,
Yes this drive has been used to upgrade other 9200's without any issue, the drive seems to be ok since its been used in other 9200s, it is a 4GB drive and these are the contents
03-05-2023 06:42 AM
if that is the content
why are you booting with this image :
switch: boot usbflash0:cat9k_iosxe.17.03.05.SPA.bin
you need to boot as below :
switch: boot usbflash0:cat9k_lite_iosxe.17.03.05.SPA.bin

Additionally, not lights come on on the usb stick itself when being plugged into the switch, but lights do flash during the format and when plugged into a PC
USB is 4GB drive used it other cisco devices without an issue, I just formatted usb to FAT, not FAT32 format and added .bin file back on it again

other options you have is XTERM and TFTP (below guide explain how you can get recover this devices)

I also tried to use TFTP method but the switch can only ping the default gateway, the PC is connected to a flat 3750 switch with the IP of 10.0.0.153 this is not pingable from the switch and the switch can not ping the PC but can ping default gateway, ports on the front of the 9200 do not activate when something is plugged into them so I plugged into the serial port on the back of the 9200, please kindly see below results...

i would suggest using the MGMT port to recover back to back PC.(make sure the PC turns off firewall)
download tftpd32/64 and copy the image in root folder of TFTP

Thank you Balaji,
Do you mean the port under the console port on the back? If so should I plug directly into the port from my laptop?
03-05-2023 06:36 PM - edited 03-05-2023 06:55 PM
Ive plugged my laptop into the MGMT port on the back, Ive configured the switch with an IP_ADDRESS of 192.168.1.3, IP_SUBNET_MASK of 255.255.255.0 and DEFAULT_GATEWAY of 192.168.1.1; the switch can not ping the PC and the PC can not ping the switch to start the tftp process, any idea what I may be doing wrong, or is this the switch? Ive also turned off Windows Defender Firewall to allow connections on the PC.

TFTP seems to still be working even though I can not ping, please see output

You don't need a default gateway just set an ip address to your computer (tftp server) and the switch. To make mine work I added an additional switch to solve the ARP problem so I could ping
