Hi All,

I am looking for an upgrade procedure from 03.08.07.E to 03.11.07.E for Cisco C4510R+E and C4507R with dual supervisor

Mod Ports Card Type Model Serial No.
---+-----+--------------------------------------+------------------+-----------
3 6 Sup 7L-E 10GE (SFP+), 1000BaseX (SFP) WS-X45-SUP7L-E
4 6 Sup 7L-E 10GE (SFP+), 1000BaseX (SFP) WS-X45-SUP7L-E

M MAC addresses Hw Fw Sw Status
--+--------------------------------+---+------------+----------------+---------
3 7426. to 7426. 3.0 15.0(1r)SG11      03.08.07.E Ok
4 7426. to 7426. 1.1 15.0(1r)SG11      03.08.07.E Ok

Mod Redundancy role Operating mode Redundancy status
----+-------------------+-------------------+----------------------------------
3 Active Supervisor SSO Active
4 Standby Supervisor SSO Standby hot

I already following this guide https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12-2/50sg/configuration/guide/Wrapper-46SG/RPR.html#wp1104060

But when I am reload peer "redundancy reload peer" its upgrade sub supervisor and become like this.

M MAC addresses Hw Fw Sw Status
--+--------------------------------+---+------------+----------------+---------
3 7426. to 7426. 3.0 15.0(1r)SG11      03.08.07.E Ok
4 7426. to 7426. 1.1 15.0(1r)SG11      03.11.07.E Ok

Mod Redundancy role Operating mode Redundancy status
----+-------------------+-------------------+----------------------------------
3 Active Supervisor RPR Active
4 Standby Supervisor RPR Standby cold

it stuck on standby cold, and if I am reload Active SUP it won't switchover to Standby SUP because its on "standby cold"

I am aware we could just do "redudancy reload shelf" to reload an entire shelf.

1). Is there something wrong with procedure I am doing?
2). Is there any way I could do this upgrade without having a downtime?
3). If I am reload active SUP first, do it would switch to standby SUP? and if it does, would its still have same result with standby cold or SUP1 would be an active again after turned on and upgraded?

Thanks
Agung

Nope.

Five minute downtime is what I always tell people.  If ISSU, FSU/eFSU/xFSU fails, it will take 30 minutes (minimum) to take back control of the switch.

Supervisor card in slot 3 did not update.

Supervisor card in slot 4 updated to 3.11.7.  However, since Slot 3 is the Master, Slot 4 goes into ROMMON.

The only way to fix this is to manually upgrade Slot 3 to the correct version and reboot the entire chassis.

Hi Leo,

Thanks for your reply.

Slot 3 no upgraded because I only reload the peer, I thought I can do this without having downtime (Upgrade slot 4, make 4 active and slot 3 standby then upgrade slot 3) But you said we cannot do this without having a downtime.

I never believed in the hype about "no downtime".

Cisco is promoting xFSU with Fast Download but the result will almost be the same.  When it works, it works well.  When it fails, however, the time spent to recover the outage will be more than the time it will take to simply reboot the entire stack.

Downtime is expected, tried other methods like ISSU but never went as expected. Schedule a maintenance window and upgrade /reboot it.
