Hello,
I'm getting confused on terminology. I have a smartnet account with "licenses" in it for Cisco products. But, this does not allow me to download the latest software for the devices. TAC support says I need a service contract. Can someone please explain SmartNet, Feature licenses, and a service contract?
Here's my thought: Smartnet is just the account on Cisco that manages feature licenses. Licenses are the actual Feature licenses that you purchased for the product. Service Contract allows you to use TAC support an download new software for the product

you are right. below is the explanation.
Smart licenses - license related to device features. ex. DNA license for devices. these are not gives warranty to device
Support contract - contract with cisco to provide warranty and cisco TAC support.
you need to buy these separately. you can download software updates, if you have support contract.
