Devnet and CiscoLive resources for Cisco Workflows

Are there any learning labs, sample code or articles for Cisco Workflows on Cisco Devnet?

And are there any more sessions in CiscoLive on-demand-library besides the DEVNET-1785 that is about Cisco Workflows?

We are actively working on creating new training content.

In the Automation Hub now there is a new offer: Cisco Workflows Self-Learning Samples.  Cisco Workflows Self-Learning Samples is a structured series of five lessons aimed at providing users with a comprehensive understanding of creating and managing automated workflows using Cisco's platforms and tools. Each lesson focuses on a specific aspect of workflow automation.

There is new very detailed documentation for these Self-Learning Samples here: https://workflows.networking.cisco.com/help/workflows/getting_started/samples#overview

Walk through training videos are now available at the link in the offering description.

There will be more sessions on Workflows at Cisco Live 2025 Amsterdam and Cisco Live 2025 US.  What topics would you like to see covered in training?  If your topic is not part of the material we are currently creating, I can work at adding it to the list for future development.

Thank you for the information and describing the way forward regarding training content. Topics that are of interested for me right now are the following:

  • How to develop adapters for the purpose of collecting network information from a network CMDB (for example Netbox or a home-grown solution) but also for collecting more generic site information for example street, city, contact from a more generic CMDB (in my case home-grown solution). And then using the collected data as input in the Workflows.
  • How to transform and clean data when importing it from a CMDB due to mismatches in attribute-naming schemes, attribute-type mismatch or just regular sanity check when transferring data into Cisco Workflows (is it really an IP address we got from the CMDB).

Great use cases.  As long as your CMDB has an API, Workflows should be able to connect with it.  If it's on premise, then you will need to use a Cisco Assist VM to proxy that connection.  All that CMDB data could then be used for Workflows.

For your data transformation use case, the pre-built data types may cover some of this.  There is also some exciting new Functions functionality coming to Workflows that may also help with this.

Another topic or use-case that would be interesting to see how it could be solved in Cisco Workflows is the following:

Create a Workflow that on a group of devices runs a series of tasks with the purpose of collecting different facts (for example, number of vlans, number of prefixes, active switchports). All of the collected facts from all of the devices should then be forwarded via an API to an external system as a json data structure for further processing.

Could you share a little more detail here?  Are you collecting facts using Ansible?  What types of devices/controllers are you collecting data from?  Workflows can send data as JSON to an API.

Yes, I will share some more details regarding this use-case in a DM during next-week.

Workflows Demos at Cisco Live EMEA 2025

Additionally, there will be a Workflows demo in the World of Solutions all week (Networking area, Demo: NET07-Cross-domain assurance and automation) and Workflows will be in the DevNet Zone on Wednesday.  The Workflows team looks forward to meeting everyone in Amsterdam.

If you’re at Cisco Live in Amsterdam please stop by the Workflows demo in the World of Solutions.

See the Cisco Workflows demo from Cisco Live EMEA 2025 that was part of the Cisco DevNet Zone live stream.  https://youtu.be/P_Pcew-mqsU?t=1517

Join us as we live stream from the DevNet Zone at Cisco Live Amsterdam 2025! You'll get a front row seat and explore with NetGru the Innovation Zone demos and Share Your Experience booth as well as chatting with folks on the floor at the event.
