Are Cisco security certifications still in demand?

Is it worth climbing the Cisco ladder for security or is it worth focusing on the cloud based certifications ladders such as the AWS ? I personally am interested in pen testing.maybe forensics. And still love my hardware . But alas outdated or dead end pathways. I'm a bachelor's student still so I have time to look around.

i do not see nowadays more focus ladder, you specialize in something and also you need to know the latest technology to be in the technology race. i would go with passion, that is very important, so you have more interest towards in general.

As mentioned already, go for what you want and are passionate about or interested about; Generally speaking Cisco certs are product specifics; in case of Security certs, I would say very product specific. 

Good start into Security or cuber is just general knowledge like one you get from CompTIA Security + cert; note that you do not need to take exam, just reading book for Security + exam is helpful
