Confusing in updating CWMS from 2.6 to 2.8

Hi all

I am going to update our client's CWMS from version 2.6.1.39.B-AE to  version 2.8

I read the CWMS 2.8 release notes. The update path should be 2.6 ->2.6MR3 ->2.8

However, I am confused in downloading the software updates. I found multiple files for each version. For example, version 2.6 contains

Cisco WebEx Meetings Server 2.6MR3
cisco-webex-meetings-server-2.6.1.3096.B.iso
11-AUG-2016 3642.73 MB
Cisco WebEx Meetings Server 2.6MR3 Security Patch 2
cisco-webex-meetings-server-2.6.1.3110.B.iso
29-JAN-2017 3658.13 MB
Cisco WebEx Meetings Server 2.6MR3 Security Patch 3
cisco-webex-meetings-server-2.6.1.3115.B.iso
17-MAR-2017 3657.83 MB
Cisco WebEx Meetings Server 2.6MR3 Security Patch 4
cisco-webex-meetings-server-2.6.1.3117.B.iso

Which file should I use? Do I need to apply all these updates one by one?

The same thing happens in version 2.8 too.

        Thanks very much !!

Hi,

You should use 2.6 MR3 which is cisco-webex-meetings-server-2.6.1.3096.B.iso. The other ISOs are security patches that go on top of 2.6 MR3. You don't need to apply those in order to update to 2.8.

For 2.8, you first must use 2.8.1.17 ISO which is 2.8 base version, and then if you prefer you can apply the latest patch 2.8 Patch 2 (no need to apply Patch 1, as all fixes in Patch 1 are included in Patch 2).

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your help Dejan!!

Dejan,

For this scenario can we use the same steps updating from 2.7MR to 2.8 base and so to 2.8 Patch 3?

Yes. 2.8 Patch 3 includes 2.8 Patch 1 and Patch 2 fixes. This information can be found in the README file of the patch.

You should always check the README file for the patch as it should have the Dependencies listed and defects fixed.

Hi, recently Cisco released 2 more patches, 2.8.1.1023 and 2.8.1.1034.

I have to do the upgrade in the weekend and now my plan totally changed as seems that I have to do 3 steps upgrade: 2.5.1MR6 to 2.8.1.17 to 2.8.1.1023 to 2.8.1,1034?

Dejan, can you please confirm my finding? Do I have to open a case as this my increase the complexity of my upgrade?

Why Cisco has to make it so hard? no sense for me ...

Also, I have multiple servers so, if I have to do 3 steps upgrade, do I have to upgrade all servers to the next step before moving to a higher version? Or just upgrade each of them up the last version?

Thank you

Hi,

could you confirm that the upgrade from 2.6 to 2.8 is a kind of minor upgrade so I don't need to consider about the OVA (Hardware configuration) and licenses?

I mean after getting backups/snapshots, I can start the upgrade directly?

Thanks in advance for your reply.
