Jabber stealing focus from Office application

I have a handful of users complaining about Jabber stealing focus from Word, Outlook, almost all other applications. They say that when typing in another application the Jabber will grab mouse focus to the quick search box at the top of their screen. They have to click back on the application to continue typing.

IMP 10.5

Jabber Version 11 and 10.5 (both versions have this reported)

Using Plantronics BT300 (use computer for calls)

FILE>OPTIONS>CALLS are all set to Never on bring conversation to front.

Reset Jabber (did not delete jabber folder in Appdata\roaming folder)

We have tried all these with no success. I can not duplicate this on my jabber so looking for any input.

We have the same issue - Any version of Jabber.  10.6 - 11.1.

Happened while typing in this window as a response.  Did same diagnostics as above.  Uninstalled and reinstalled Jabber.  Continues to occur.  We notice it more on Windows 8 than on 7 but does occur on both OS.

I could not find any resolution to this. Right now we have disabled Jabber dock as a work around because its so annoying to our users. I opened a TAC case and will respond again when resolved.

I will be interested to see what you find out. I have the same exact problem. And as Network Helpdesk mentioned, it did it even while I was trying to type in this message.

In our situation we have determined it is the Plantronics blue tooth headset trying to initiate jabber for a call. I still do not know why it is initiating but, we are currently trying to disable the plantronics hub software to see if this correctes the issue.

This is from TAC and has helped to trace what is causing this:

"The key thing to look for here is in the jabber.log, “Received device action event: ACC_MAKE_CALL” and “setJabberForeground()”: "

Here are my Jabber debugs:

Hope this helps

Was there any resolution? I have the same issue. I have noticed that this only happens when the headset is docked in the charging stand; if I take it off the stand it doesn't steal focus. Jabber 11.0.1, Plantronics Hub, Windows 7.  I just noticed there's a Plantronics Hub update and am applying  it now.

I think I have a solution, but I only have one Plantronics headset, so I'm hoping you can test it for me too.  As we roll out Jabber to more offices, I expect we'll have more headsets.

I have Jabber client 11.1.0 and Plantronics Voyager Legend running firmware v.6108.

I did the following:

  • Open the Plantronics Hub
  • Click Updates
  • Use the My Headset Updater (This will open a browser window.)
  • Choose your headset and follow the instructions (you will need to connect the headset via USB and remove the USB receiver--Just follow the instructions).
  • If an update is available, go ahead, but more importantly, make the following changes to your configuration:

Turn off:

  • Call Announcement + Voice Answer
  • Mute Reminder
  • Voice Answer

I did that this morning, and I haven't had any focus stealing today.  I also no longer have any ACC_MAKE_CALL entries in the Jabber logs.

Obviously, this disables the listed features, but they didn't work for me anyway.  It also disables the ability to bring up the Jabber dialer using the call button on the headset.  That is far less annoying than the focus stealing, so I'm happy with the solution.

I have a similar issue though Jabber only steals focus when I start a New Call from within Cisco IP Communicator.

I select New Call, get the dial tone, and the Jabber window steals focus to the Jabber search box.  I must click back on CIPC to dial the call.

It only happens with my Jabra PRO headset active though.

Have the same issue...using Jabber 11.5, Voyager Legend UC, BT 300 (Plantronics Hub 3.8). After seeing all these, and learning after months of trying to get resolved that only if my headset is out of the charging stand will this stop, contacted Plantronics. Sent them all this to look at, and their answer was "it is a Jabber issue"...

Check Jabber again, do not see any mention of this issue or any fix (I am not on latest Jabber - 3.6 I think...but very close...

We are having same issue:

Jabber Client 12.7.0 stealing focus from other applications.

Here's some environment info

Headset - Jabra Biz2400
Jabber Client - 12.7.0

Check the batter performance options and make sure you are not on low power mode.
