Just looking for clairifcation on the difference between a solution using VCS/MCU/TMS and Webex meetingplace server. for multiparty video conferencing and scheduling, don't they do the same thing ?

Cisco WebEx Meetings Server uses only webcam video in WebEx meeting room. It doesn't support Telepresence as video end point (no TP integration).

This below document might help give you an idea of what each product is and the purpose they serve. As Dejan mentions, WebEx Meeting Server is different than WebEx Meeting Center, Meeting Center allows for TelePresence integration whereas Server doesn't.
