Created by: Sandro Galletti on 16-10-2013 04:37:30 AM Hi, i'm asking your help to know if there is a way to add a new phone without insert the device's mac address, but ask to ccm to crate a dummy mac address.
Can i do that?
Thx you

In the UCM admin UI, the device name for most desk phones is a concatenation of 'SEP' and the MAC address - e.g. 'SEP123456789012', however it is possible to specify <name> based on a non-real, app-generated dummy value, like'SEP'+dummy. The only catch may be that UCM may enforce certain formatting conventions (via a regex) on device names for particular phone models. For example for a 7975, the name will need to conform to 'SEP' format, but for an IP Communicator softphone, the name format is much less restrictive, e.g. 'DAVIDSIPC' Note UCM cannot 'make up' the MAC part of a device name for you - if you want to use a dummy name, the app will need to generate a dummy MAC value. A random string of 12 numbers would probably be good enough, but you could investigate the standards for MAC address designation and create an algorithm that guaranteed never to collide with a real/valid MAC.
