I¿m trying to run the
"ReportingRunAsInformix.bat" file after installing the CVP Reporting component (on a dedicated server for reporting) and rebooting.  I am logged in as the Informix user and right after executing the BAT file, I get the following message:

*******************************************************************************
This batch file must be run after a
machine reboot.  Please reboot the machine
and re-rerun the batch file.  If
this message has appeared after a reboot -
please consult the Unified CVP
4.0.1 Release Notes regarding important system
patches that MUST be installed to
proceed.
*******************************************************************************
Press any key to continue . .
.

I cannot get past this.  Installed version is 7.0(2).
Does anyone know how to resolve this error?

Thanks.

This behaviour will occur if the Informix server has not started (which normally occurs after the reboot).  This is listed under Services as "Informix IDS - cvp_db_<hostname>".  It should be set to automatic and be started.  You can also check from the command line with "onstat -", the reply should look like:

IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 10.00.TC5W4   -- On-Line -- <uptime> -- <Memory Footprint> KBytes

If the service has not started, attempt to start it.  If it starts successfully then go ahead and run the 'RunasInformix' script.  If it does not start, then please get back to me.

Trying to start that service results in:
"The Informix IDS - cvp_db_xxxx service on Local Computer started and then stopped."

3 event viewer logs show:
cvp_db_xxxx : Segment locked: addr=0C000000, size=68157440

cvp_db_xxxx : MT: cannot allocate memory; out of resident shared memory

cvp_db_xxxx : oninit: Fatal error in shared memory creation

The server has 3.25GB of RAM.

When installing, I chose the "Medium" database size.  Do I need to reinstall and select "Small"?

Thanks.

The silly question just might be the silly answer.  I was not aware of any MS patches required (I did not open the software packages).
Can these be downloaded?
Do they need to be installed prior to the Informix DB install?

Thanks.

This is a different issue, but I just remembered it and it should go under this note.

In V4 it is possible to start the RunAsInformix script after a reboot and catch the Informix server while it is still booting, which would yield the same error noted by Mike.  Waiting 60 seconds before attempting to run the RunAsInformix script is all that is required in that case.

This was corrected in the V7 installation.

Mike,

Informix cannot get the amount of memory it wants to boot.  This is because there is something else loaded into memory right where the engine is trying to boot.  We can go through the process of identifying what is holding that memory, but I have to ask the silly question first - there should have been 3 Microsoft hotfixes patches to run against the machine to free up memory for Informix (relocating the OS out of the Informix memory range).  These should have been bundled with the CVP software.  Did you install these patches?

Let me dig up the specifics about the patches and post them here.  You should not have to re-install CVP after running the patches, just reboot or restart the service.

Mike,

I am informed that only CVP 4 required the hotfixes.  You should not be seeing this in 7.0(2).

Please review the Install documentation http://cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/custcosw/ps1006/prod_installation_guides_list.html for your version.  Pre-Installation tasks - page 16 discusses memory.

Also check the note on Page 70 regarding Cisco Security Agent.  Earlier versions of this were loading into memory directly where Informix wants to go.

If you are still seeing this problem, then we will dig into what is holding the memory Informix wants.

Even though the installed CSA was disabled, I uninstalled it, rebooted, and the Informix IDS service started successfully.
I was then able to run both BAT files successfully.

Thanks for the help!

A bit messy, but I'm glad we got there.
