I need to extend the camera control cable, and wonder if I can use an ordinary Cat-5 cable. Maximum length will be around 10 meters.
Btw it is to be used on a c60.

Hi Arne,

Yes, that should work just fine. Just keep the total distance less then 20 meters or you will have to use an active repeater.

Best regards
Roger

Hi,

i want to use the Edge 95 MXP with a cable length of 40m.
How can I realise that?
Repeater or amplifier?

Thanks a lot!

Is there no one who is able to answer the question?
It is very important to know this. Please let me know if my possible realization is impossible.

Thank you a lot!

Hi SJ,

The Edge is using a proprietary TANDBERG High Speed Interface (THSI) to transfer the HD stream from the camera to the codec if you are using a TANDBERG PrecisionHD 720p camera. The problem with the extension is not the VISCA part which is easy to extend, but the video part.

TANDBERG has made a TANDBERG Video Switch (TVS), which talks THSI with the codec and standard DVI and RS-232 externally. If you use this switch you can use standard DVI/HDMI extenders as well as RS-232 extenders to get a 40 meter stretch from the video switch to the camera. The TVS will still need to be connected within a few meters of the codec.
Note: The TVS is only supported by the Codec 3000 and the Codec 6000. So you will need to use one of these codecs to be able to achieve what you want.

I'm afraid there is no way to extend the camera of the Edge up to 40 meters.

Best regards
Roger

Hi Roger,
Roger Boe:
I'm afraid there is no way to extend the camera of the Edge up to 40 meters.

What is maximum length of the camera cable of Edge if we use Cat-6 cable?

We have also situation, where we would install the PrecisionHD camera to the back wall of an auditorium and the Edge is behind the front wall.

Thank you in advance,

Marko

Hi Marko,

If you use the TVS you can use standard extenders to extend the video and RS-232 as far as you want. You get both optical extenders as well as extenders using CAT-5/CAT-6 cables.

The RS-232 vista signal for camera control can be extended up to 20 meters without any extenders.

Cheers
Roger

Hi Roger,

Currently we have ~20 m cat-6 cable from Edge to PHD camera. It does not work.

Now we tried 3 x 6.5 m extenders that were bundled with 3000 MXP integrator package (if I remember correctly). It works through these extenders. Separate power supply is also necessary for the camera.

Greetings and best regards,

Marko
