Hello world!
Can you recommend a simple device had two serial ports and could "translate" messages from one device to another?
For instance, I would connect one serial port to a microphone system and the second port to Tandberg. If microphone systems announces that microphone no 1 is active, the device would send command "preset-activate p2" to Tandberg.
AMX, Crestron or a Linux PC could be used for such kind of translation but it would be overkill.
Can you recommend anything?
I believe Tandberg itself uses something like that to drive Pioneer plasma monitors behind Tandberg 8000?
Thanks!

Anyone out there able to answer this gentleman?
This is a bit outside of what we at TANDBERG are able to give recommendations on.

Hi Marko
This might already have been answered already but you could acheive what you're asking by using a BSS Soundweb London mic mixer/processor.....
These devices can process logic as well as audio and have the ability to send custom serial strings out of the RS232 port.
All you would need to do, within the BSS program, is associate each of the mic inputs on an automixer audio processing object with a Serial Trigger/Table logic object........when a microphone gates on, the logic object will send a serial string out of the port (codec preset activate etc)
I've done this before with a 6000MXP........the BSS processors work very well with Tandberg kit and it's a quarter of the price of a Crestron or AMX system.
Hope this helps........let me know if you need any more info.

.I know this is a slightly old post, but it still needs simple a solution
There are 2 solutions I have used for this A Kramer FC-5 can be programmed with a simple translation table and has io ports and relays in addition to the 2 rs232 ports. This soltion has limitations but will probably do what you need. Second option is an AMX NI700 (simpllest product with 2 rs232 ports) but will need some amx programming experience.
