We have been experiencing very audible echo's using C20s and C40s connected to newer, feature enriched displays. We have tested these screen with Polycom VC's ( HDX 8000 ) and Tandberg 6000 MXPs and they both are fine.
We have upgraded then downgraded the software which hasnt helped.
We believe it could be an issue with the delay of the echo cancellation which I believe with the C-series is up to 30ms? We are also led to believe that 6000 MXPs and Polycom are much greater.
This will progressivly become more known and more troublesome as more display manufacturers integrate these new features.
Is there an API command to manually change the delay? and if not:
Is it possible for an immediate upgrade which would allow us to set the delay using API or through the advanced settings?
Many thanks,
GK

Hi Graeme,
We are aware of this issue and we will come up with a solution, however:
1) You should avoid using mechanisms on monitors generating delay. Turn off any interpolation/120HZ/240Hz signal processing. Turn off any virtual surround.
2) We spend a lot of time to minimize the end to end delay to maximize the user experience. When using a monitor that needs to hold back the audio because of processing the images increases the delay a lot.
3) Usually monitors is equipped with a GAME mode, that will turn off all processing to speed up the response time of the monitor. Use this mode.
4) The C-series has actually a much better echo canceler then the MXP, but it needs the right working conditions.
5) In the future we will have some kind of detection or setting coping with this scenario, but it will still be advices not to use it and rather try to minimize the delay in the monitor.
Best regards
Roger

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the reply.
We have tried all these options and we still have the same fault. We have had minor success with the C40 by turning down the gain in the mic, which is only softening the echo but it is better than before.
In the C20 quickset is there an API command we can use to turn down the gain on the mic? Obviously the advanced settings are basic on the quickset so we can't test this with the C20 yet.
I understand it has a better echo canceler but are the delays the same?
We have done more testing today going through an amp and to individual speakers which has improved it but there is still an echo there, we can hear the echo canceler coming in a split second into the reverb.
Many thanks,
