Polycom introduced native TIP implementation on Polycom HDX® , Polycom OTX® and Polycom RPX® systems in June 2011 and added TIP on Polycom ATX® systems in October 2011. Polycom introduced native TIP support on the Polycom RealPresence™ Platform adding broader support for CTS across Polycom solutions. The Polycom DMA® also introduced virtualization capabilities related to dialing plans, load balancing, and resiliency that can help improve performance. In July 2012, Polycom completed multi-vendor verification and testing of Cisco (CUCM , CTS) + Microsoft Lync with a simple architecture, accommodating the non-standard protocols (TIP and RTV). This solution was tested in Polycom's lab.

Which Polycom solutions support TIP and which Cisco TelePresence Systems does Polycom work with?

Support for TIP is available across our RealPresence Room, Immersive, and Platform solutions. This allows for native interoperability with Cisco TelePresence Systems (CTS) using TIP. Specifically, Polycom products and versions that support TIP are:

  • Polycom HDX 9006, Polycom HDX 8000 HD (HW rev B), Polycom HDX 7000 HD (HW Rev C) and HDX 4500
  • Polycom RealPresence Immersive: Polycom OTX and Polycom RPX—introduced TIP support in June 2011 and support for TIP on Polycom ATX was added in October 2011
  • Polycom RealPresence Platform:
    • Supports multi-vendor environments with Cisco and Microsoft Lync.
    • Polycom RMX is required for the Polycom multi-vendor solution supporting both Cisco and Microsoft Lync
    • Polycom Multipoint Layout Application (MLA - free software required for RMX calls with CTS systems)
    • Polycom DMA —supports “passing through TIP calls” and is required for the Polycom multi-vendor solution supporting both Cisco and Microsoft Lync. DMA also can load balance Cisco TelePresence MCU MSE Series conference bridges

Cisco solution and release compatibility as of July 2012 can be found in the RMX 1500/2000/4000 Release Notes - Version 7.7 (as well as Microsoft releases required to support Lync)
