David as you are thone who wrote the module for the codec control for crestron.  I have a question on the SX20, i have got the module to work using the USB dongle but after a short period of time it stops communicating to the Codec.  If i just reboot the codec everything works again, then shortly after just stops.  Do you have any advise or answers why the usb port seems to stop responding?

Marco,
I am observing a similar behaviour when testing with a unit here.  My initial testing indicates it may be related to the sleep function of the codec.  When the codec goes into sleep mode it appears the USB ports may become unresponsive.  David is this the potential source of this issue and could you provide any potential work around for us to continue using the USB to RS-232 adapter with this unit?

Thanks,

JD

Jonathan,
I am not sure its tied to the Sleep function, as results when it disconnects varies.  We have seen it disconnect when performing operations to the codec also.  I have moved to using a IP module to control the Codec and seems to work for everything i am doing.  I had a case open with a TAC engineer that wanted to RMA the unit but i dont believe this is a bad unit.  I think its a Driver issue on the codec to the USB adapter.  Thanks for labbing this up, i ppreciate your time.

Hi Marco,
we are aware that the usb->serial on the SX20 seems to periodically stop working. We are working on a fix for this. It will require a SW update on the codec. It is not in the Crestron module.

David

Thanks for this feedback David.  Not to pressure, but would you have any idea on approximate timeframe for this SW release?

Thanks,

JD

I see lots of posts for sending serial commands using the C20 USB port. Does anyone have information sending serial commands using the IR interface?  I would like to send serial commands to a Crestron controller using IR bud. Thank you

Hi Macro,

Even we've configured using the IP Module, but observing the same problem as listed above. i.e., the unit becomes non-responsive after some time. Thanks in advance for the help

What version of the firmware is currently installed on the codec you are using?  The USB to RS-232 issue was resolved via the release of 6.1.X and we have been testing with 6.2 which seems to have resolved the issues.  I have not been testing with IP based communications but a firmware update may potentially resolve some of your issues.

Hope this helps,

JD

I have recently run into this problem myself, where an SX20 will randomly stop communication at the USB port after a few days.  The units (6 so far) I am seeing it on are running either CE9.3.2 or CE9.5.0.  Is this a bug that has snuck it's way back in possibly?  This is the latest info I have found on this particular issue so far and it looks like the bug was fixed in 6.1.X.
