I am unable to utilize TC Console within my enterprise. It seems TC Console utilizes Java Web Start which has been classified as a RESTRICTED technology within my corporation due to security concerns. Our PC standard build does not include Java Web Start.
An earlier thread ( http://developer.tandberg.com/web/guest/forum/-/message_boards/message/74730 ) seemed to acknowledge this shortcoming and indicated that an EXE version of TC Console would be developed in the future. Can you give us an update.
The flexibility of the C-Series codec relies heavily on the ability to use TC Console. The fact that it is only available via the developers web site using a web based application is a severe shortcoming. Can you please help us to make TC Console portable and secure.
Also, please consider linking the saved profiles to TMS where settings can be properly stored and recalled. In my opinion, TMS is where all codec configs should be stored.

Hi Marc,
We do see that a few customers have issues with the Java Web Start model. These concerns are noted and something that we will hopefully be able to address soon and thus help you with the issues you are having today.
I am unable to give you a time line but we are looking at an update version of the application in the coming months.

Thanks for the information. I am glad that you understand our dilemna. I don't know how difficult it will be to port TC Console to another platform, but it would certainly solve a big problem at my company. Let us know if you get any additional information on roadmap and timeline.

I had a similar issue with TC console.
It worked in the past very fine, but for any reason i got the error message: "application cannot be started" while launching the console app.
Also if i wanted to deinstall the tc console wihtin windows installer the error occured: "application cannot be uninstalled"
All other java applications (i.e. infoblox, tms 13 etc.) work fine.
So i unstinstalled sun java completely and also deleted the sun/java folder by myself and reinstalled java.
Then i launched TC console again and it is working now.
Possibly it helps anyone else.

is it a general problem that the application is written in Java or is it just the java web start model? If we create an installer and a run time version of the TC console application that isn't dependent of Java Web Start that should be enough to able to run at your company?

the issues you had were did they start after an upgrade from a previous version? This is where we have seen some similar issues where, for some reason, not all parts of the application have been upgraded and therefore creating this situation.

Hi David,
Yes, it appears that it is the Java Web Start portion of Java that is a restricted technology in my company. We do have Java installed on our PCs as part of the corporate standard, however our package lacks "Java Web Start". I use TMS and other applications that utilize Java without problem.

Yes, that is very good.
I am looking for the easiest path to creating a secure, usable TC console that I can deploy in our enterprise. That is the main goal.
The only other thing I would ask you to consider is that the Java app might be able to be used without a connection to the external Internet. Would it be possible to provide the Java app as something that could run locally on a PC. This is helpful when building and installing a system since one could just connect the codec and the laptop to a small switch or even with a crossover cable for configuration.
How difficult and time consuming would it be to meet goal 1 and then goal 2?

we have looked at this and we will be able to meet both your goals. The next release (cannot give you a date yet for this though) will be of something you may download once and copy to any PC/laptop like a regular application.

i am sure it doesnt depend form TC console update, but Java update.
The previous cache folder in ../userfolder/sun/java/deployment/ didnt exist anymore, but has been replaced with Systemcache.
After manual uninstall of java and deleteing all java folders now both folders exists (cache and systemcache).. that was the issue here.
