Choosing the right format ensures you meet your audience’s expectations. Let's take a moment to clearly distinguish between Webex Webinars and Webex Webcasts.

Webinars

Webinars are designed to be interactive online presentations. They’re ideal when you want your audience to actively engage with your content.

- You can collect attendee details through registration

- Enable 1-to-1 chat for private questions or feedback

- Allow attendees to raise their hand and participate live

- Turn on mic and camera access for more direct interaction

- Even break out into smaller group discussions through breakout sessions

These features make webinars a great choice for training, executive briefings, or marketing events where engagement is a key.

Webcast

On the other hand, Webcasts are broadcast-style events. These are more about scale and stability than interaction.

- No registration is required—attendees can simply view the session

- There’s no 1-to-1 chat or attendee microphone access

- The audience can't raise their hands or join breakout sessions

This is perfect for large-scale events—where the focus is on delivering content to thousands of viewers with minimal disruption.

"So in short: if you want engagement—go with a Webinar. If you want reach—go with a Webcast.”
