I am trying to setup the IM notifications to use Google Talk's XMPP server. The Administration task is successfully completed and the XMPP server status is "Greent". Added a notification with couple of tags added for my existing campaing and route the notifications to my gtalk id (username@gmail.com is the Address that is set). I am tagging the incoming contacts with the tag set in the email notifications. i dont see the IM notification on the Gtalk. Does IM notification work against Gtalk or am I too ambitious?

Thanks
Sriram

This may just have been a typo but you said
I am tagging the incoming contacts with the tag set in the _email_ notifications.
.  Did you set up an email notification or an IM notification?  To get a notification to google talk when tagging a social contact you would need an IM notification.  Also make sure that you select the campaign that the social contact is in when creating the notification.

Sorry... it was my mistake... it is IM notification. i have configured an IM notification with one of the Twitter feed campaigns and added two tags. the notifications needs to be routed to the configured gtalk id.

the gtalk Id that I have used to configure the XMPP setting gadget is same as the notification "Address". Is it ok to have or do I need to use different gtalk ids?

Thanks
Sriram

It should not be a problem that they are the same.

Could you send me two files so I can look into this?

In the Administration tab on the SocialMiner interface in the System Administration gadget open the System Logs drawer.

1) Click the System Health Snapshot link. Please zip and post the file that you download there.
2) Kick on Log Directory and then "runtime".  Please post the latest log that starts with CCBU.  They are all timestamped.

Thanks

The log file you sent me is the first one from after startup.  Could you please send me the most recent two files? The timestamp should be the most recent dates.

Thanks

The file that I sent to you was the latest one for the day (Feb 16th). all the other files starting with CCBU-runtime are older (14th February). However I found something in the Error-runtime.2012-02-14T14-37-54.344.startup.log which has details on the notification failures. I am not sure whether this helps. After verifying this log, i checked my configurations for the IM notifications, and ensured the user details are proper. Since I am using Gtalk id I gave the user name as svionsrib@gmail.com. I believe the "@gmail.com" is needed.

The other file that I sent to you has grown up to 38 MB and I face difficulty in downloading that. Please have a look at the file that i am attaching now. IF if doesnt have necessary information, please let me know. I will be at my lab in a couple of hours and should be able to download.

Thanks
Sriram

Sriram,
The error logs were actually very helpful. You're not going to like the answer though.  Google appears to have recently changed how users are required to log into their XMPP servers.  Users used to be able to log in with the username and password.  Now username@gmail.com is required. I know that you are already putting the @gmail.com at the end of the username but because this was not required for google before and was not allowed on some of the other servers we tested with we explicitly remove it before submitting the credentials for logging into the XMPP servers.

I have opened a bug for this and we will fix it for our 9.0(1).  Until then, I'm afraid google talk won't work as a notification server.  Other servers that allow you to log in with just your username will still work fine.

John
