Core Issue

This problem is tracked in Cisco bug ID CSCsd26042.

The RealSpeak engine buffer overflow results in a Text-to-Speech (TTS) email failure. The issue is mostly reported in Cisco Unity versions 4.0(5), 4.1(1), and 4.2(1).

To confirm the initially affected user and identify this specific defect, perform these steps:

  1. Verify whether the Cisco Unity server is able to temporarily resolve the issue after a reboot.

  2. Enable diagnostics for MalEx 12 and TTS.

  3. Verify whether the TTS engine diagnostic shows this error:

    < CAvRealSpeakMapper::startGenerating(CAvString&)] exited with value [0x8000FFFF; -2147418113]

Note the timestamp of this failure.

  4. Open the AvCsMgr trace and click on the line with the timestamp closest to the one for the error seen.

  5. Perform a Find to search for "] Mailbox - Logon".

  6. Check the application event logs for any TTS errors, similar to this one:

    Event Type: Warning
    Event Source: CiscoUnity_TTS
    Event Category: Warning
    Event ID: 1044
    Date: 3/24/2006
    Time: 7:19:33 PM
    User: N/A
    Computer: UNITY
    Description:
Recoverable Error from L&H TTS Engine while shutting down (mapped to HRESULT [0x8000FFFF; E_AVTTS_INTERNAL_ERROR]).

Resolution

A reboot of the Cisco Unity server fixes the issue temporarily. However, the issue occurs again after some time.

This defect is fixed in these Engineering Special (ES) releases:

  • 4.0(5)ES61

  • 4.1(1)ES20

  • 4.3(24)

To obtain an appropriate Enterprise Special patch, open a service request with the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) through the Service Request Tool.
