The IOSvL2 virl node, despite its name, does offer inter-vlan routing and other common layer 3 switch features that would be similar to a Catalyst layer 3 switch. This is going to be the node type with the least amount of resource requirements. If you are looking to emulate a Nexus device type you can choose from the NX-OSv and NX-OS 9000.
You should see the IOSvL2 node type in your list of available nodes by default. Take a look at tutorial here if you need help getting started http://get.virl.info/new.iosv.php
