This Quick Start Guide (QSG) is a Cookbook style guide to Deploying Data Center technologies with end-to-end configurations for several commonly deployed architectures.

This presentation will provide end-to-end configurations mapped directly to commonly deployed data center architecture topologies. In this cookbook style; quick start guide; configurations are broken down in an animated step-by-step process to a complete end-to-end good clean configuration based on Cisco's best practices and strong recommendations. Each QSG will contain set the stage content, technology component definitions, recommended best practices, and more importantly different scenario data center topologies mapped directly to complete end-to-end configurations. These QSG's are geared for training network engineers, network operators, and data center architects to allow them to quickly and effectively deploy these technologies in their data center infrastructure based on proven commonly deployed designs.

Please note, that the use of the Overload bit should be configured when well understood.

In NX-OS 6.2 you have the option to use the "set-overload-bit", but unfortunately the guide doesn't explain what happens with the two possible options for the configuration.

Note the following:

  • set-overload-bit always - you will NEVER use this switch for transit, aka it's out of service, even for locally terminated services.
  • set-overload-bit on-startup <xx> - the overload-bit is only set for a limited time upon startup of the switch.

Use them with caution... You might end up in a situation, that your network won't work

That is correct; good catch; QSG has been updated with on-startup [sec].

1. New switch is added to the FabricPath fabric

2. SPF updates are sent to other switches - advertise overload bit

{while new switch routing table is still incomplete; maintain overload bit, no blackholing}

{the new switch is not used for routing while overload bit is set}

3. Routing table is now complete on new switch and is operational

4. Clear overload bit

5. Start routing

What's the issue with sh fabricpath isis adjacency not reporting actual system name? I have no authentication configured.
