eBGP over vPC + Anycast GW on the same Border Leaf (VXLAN BGP EVPN)

Hi all,

I've been trying to find documentation about a certain design I'm planning to implement.

Basically, we would need to have a Border Leaf establishing eBGP over a vPC with a bare metal server AND also have the same Border Leaf on other VLANs with the need to have Anycast GW. The logical diagram would look similar to the following one:

Example.PNG

Some additional information about it:

- The Server/NODE is physically connected to both leafs, forming an vPC;

- The Server/NODE requires to establish eBGP sessions with both leafs on VLAN_02, using the direct connected IPs;

- VLAN_01 and VLAN_03 do NOT require any routing protocol. The Server/NODE only requires access to the Anycast GW for GW redundancy.

I have gone over several documentation, but it only specifies the leafs with one of the functions, either acting as an Anycast GW OR as a border leaf.

My question is simple. Is this design possible? Does Nexus 9k support this configuration?

Let me know if there is any question.

Hi @stevanbeluzo1

Yes it's supported to have a pair of leafs acting as both Border Leafs and Compute leafs.

There are a very very very few corner case scenarios which can cause some problems, but you should not worry to much about that. There are always workarounds.

The official answer is: yes, is supported.

Stay safe,

Sergiu
