With the recent release of Cisco’s Firepower REST API, DevNet would like to announce our new Firepower Management Center sandbox. The FMC sandbox provides instant access to the Firepower REST API through the API Explorer GUI. From here, users can play with the various calls and learn the ins and outs of the API.

With FMC, you now have a light weight and easy to use option for managing Firepower Threat Defense and legacy Firepower devices through the Firepower Management Center. The sandbox contains a publically available FMC server with Firepower and Firepower Threat Defense devices connected. It’s a pretty simple environment but more than enough to get you started learning the API.

The Sandbox can be reached at the following link. You need to be a DevNet Member to access the site.

https://devnetsandbox.cisco.com/RM/Diagram/Index/1228cb22-b2ba-48d3-a70a-86a53f4eecc0?diagramType=Topology

Reserve some time and you will receive an email with credentials to the FMC box. The Sandbox topology page contains all the information you need in order to get started.

Feel free to try out the new sandbox. Feedback is always appreciated.

Happy REST APIing

Hi,

Click on the link above to access the FMC sandbox page. You will require your DevNet login at this point. On the topology page, hit the "Reserve" in the upper right corner of the page. A window will open where you select the length of time you need access for.select up to five days.  hit ok. After a few moments, you will receive an email with credentials and the link to the public FMC server.

Let me know if this all works out for you. If not, let me know and I can assist.

Joe,

The confirmation email from this sandbox did not include any VPN information.

Is VPN access to this sandbox not included?

Also, the user that was created in the FMC does not have access to the API explorer for the url that was provided.

Hi John,

The FMC sandbox is a public URL sandbox. VPN is not required. Browse directly to:

https://fmcrestapisandbox.cisco.com/api/api-explorer/

Login with the credentials sent to your email (and displayed in the output window on your sandbox reservation page). This will give you direct access to the API explorer.

Regards,

Joe

John,

I see the mail sent to you with login instructions. I see there is a line stating:

"You must establish a VPN connection (see above) in order to interact with the devices in your lab"

This is INCORRECT for this particular lab. This FMC sandbox URL is directly accessible from the internet with your credentials. VPN is not required.

We will have this corrected immediately,

Thanks,

Joseph Kearns
