Hello,

I am experiencing issues in the deployment of a Cisco Email Security Appliance (ESA) C680. In fact I have no output at the console line of the appliance.

There is also no ip address detected on the interfaces.

Please how can I  reset the appliance?

Hi,

The Email Security Appliance can only be reset once the command line access is available using commands diagnostic -> reload.

If the device is not accessible using a console cable as well then the device would need to be replaced as per your contract with Cisco.

You can attempt a reboot and ensure the serial connection uses the below settings.

Bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: Hardware (RTS/CTS, DSR/DTR)

Once the session has been opened, you may need to press Enter to trigger output.

If you have loaded a configuration onto the appliance recently but lost all communications now, you could open the configuration that was loaded extracting the IP address of one of the interfaces, use a X-over cable and assign a laptop to the neighboring IP and talk to the appliance through the interface.

Hello,

I'm facing the same issue with new 2xCisco ESA C680 appliances. The devices are not accessible via console connection using the below configuration:

Bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: Hardware (RTS/CTS, DSR/DTR)

Also the default IP address 192.168.42.42 is not responding.

Could you please tell me how I should procced to resolve the issue.

Thanks
Anis

If you have ruled out an issue with the console cable itself, then we would need to RMA the appliance.

Please ensure the appliance is under an active hardware contract and create a TAC case for the RMA.
