Hi Guys,
I am supporting and environment where they are currently using Cisco Iron Port (Email Security Appliance). The client recently implemented a core banking feature that generates a lot of outgoing mail and as a result they receive the following error on their exchange server:
421 #4.x.2 Too many messages for this session
I have reviewed iron port spam filter configurations and rate limits to ascertain whether the cause could be iron port but everything seems fine. Is there any other setting or configuration I should consider on iron port. Plus is a there a sizing document I can refer to specifying the rate at which different iron port appliances process email traffic.
The client is using exchange 2013.

Hi,
In order to increase the number of messages allowed per session, please follow the instructions below.
1. Enter the Web GUI of the appliance
2. MAIL POLICIES -> MAIL FLOW POLICIES -> RELAY policy
3. Increase the 'Max. Messages Per Connection:' as per your requirement.
4. Submit.
5. Commit.
In order to review sizing opportunities I would recommend working with your Cisco sales rep as they have access to sizing tools that can take into account your current configuration. I do not think there is a sizing document available.
Thank You!

Hi Libin,
Thank you for your response. Is there an effect on performance when I modify the 'Max.Messages Per Connection:' setting?

There could be, it would need to be monitored after the configuration is modified.
By increasing the number you are in effect allowing the server to inject a higher number of emails over a single connection with the ESA.
