Dear all,

We have a virtual appliance c150 which is running on a out of support esx server. Now we  want to move this appliance to another esx server. Can i Just migrate this machine or is a backup restore better? I thouhgt you get license errors when you migrate the machine to another host. Who have the correct procedure? Thanks!

Your license file will be deactivated.

You cannot have C150 vESA - C150 is now ancient physical appliance.

Virtual ESAs models are C100V/C300V/C600V. C100V is not recommended with AsyncOS v.11.

Sorry, we have the c150. Is there no way to activatie the license file again at the migration moment?

OK, C150 is a physical appliance. What do you want to do with it? You cannot migrate it to ESXi. You shouldn't have any kind of active license too, this product is with status EoL for a long time.

Hi,

I thought it was the C150, but we have the Cisco C100V. What is the best to migrate this appliance to another ESXi host?

Thank you four your assistance!

Vmotion works fine.
Or if they aren't connected you can use something like the VM converter.

Worst case, that might break the license, so you just reapply the file. If you don't have the file, open a ticket with licensing , give them the VLN and request a new one.

Ken.

Ok. I try to clone first, and set the old Mac adres on it. A direct migrate is too risky for a production environment.

Clone will break the license for sure. That's covered in the docs. It's not just the MAC, there's a unique ID per VM that gets changed when you clone. You will need the license file.

Keep in mind that if you have a valid license, you can spin up as many VMS as you want.... spin up a new one on the new infrastructure, license it, config it(lots of ways to do that...), change the NAT on the firewall /change the connector on Exchange... and that's basically transparent...

Ok. I Will contact support. Thanks all!

Hello,

The supported migration methods can be found within the Cisco Content Security Virtual Appliance Install Guide.

Thanks!

is it also possibile to restore a c100v appliance with Veeam and reapply the license after the backup , or create a new appliance , and restore the config on the new appliance?

Backup/ restore of a live vm isn't supported. If you suspend the listeners, shut it down, then did a backup/restore with Veeam, and then relicensed, I don't thin that's any different that a clone or a copy with VMconverter...

Spin up a new one, license and then restore the config is supported. Make sure the new one is the same version as the old one, and I'd make sure the various securit services update to the same version before you apply the configuration file.

So start it up, give it an ip, license it , enable all of the features and let them download their updates so that they match your production box. Suspend listener's on prod, shut it down or disconnect it's network cards, then apply the configratin on the new box....
