The IronPort will not be "disabled", it will work in a strictly 'receive only' mode. The antispam and antivirus updates will cease to function, and the device will no longer be able to upgrade to the latest AsyncOS.

Doesn't an unlicensed box also lose the ability to make Senderbase lookups?
I didn't know the sending ability was disabled, and was wondering if some of the types wandering in here were trying to run entirely on homebrew filters and public DNSBLs.
Personally I wouldn't want to run without h/w cover and TAC to prognosticate over tricky questions.

Hi there,
this "receive only" mode worries me.
I have a pair of Secure Email M390 with license next to expire, no time to reactivate and i don't want a problem with the send emails!!
And what is the state of the dkim service?
That's the features next to expire
Any insights?
Thanks

Quite simple,
On the WEB gui click "System Administration/Feature Keys"
There is also a CLI command for it but I do not have that nearby.
If you want to monitor the number of days (or is it hours?) before expiration, you can use the XML/Status page (https://yourironporthost/xml/status) or use SNMP.
Hope this helps.
best regards, Steven

Will it be able to do content filter like match subject and do something?
09-14-2010 05:48 AM
Greetings,
The filters will still function as long as the appliance is able to receive email. There is not a specific feature key that is associated with content or message filters.

What if the Incoming Mail Handling and Bounce Verification shows expiry in 'n' days, how is this possible ?
I have noticed this on few customer boxes.

Greetings,
We dont' see this much anymore as it usually only applies to a defect in older versions.
The alert was issued due to a Feature Key defect (#39008). Where a key
type of 'N' was applied to this appliance when it was running AsyncOS
6.0.0. Older versions did not support these abbreviations in key
mappings. The same key is kept as type 'N' when you upgrade. As such,
this same key will not work after you upgrade and you receive these
messages when the key expires.
These alert messages can be safely ignored and the defect will be fixed
in a future version of AsyncOS.
If you are seeing this in a newer version , above 6.x then it would be advisable to open a support ticket so we can investigate this further.

Hello,
It had the expiry in older version prior to 6 however even after
upgrade to 7.1.2 the expiry date is specified against incoming mail
handling and bounce verification.
Will the box stop receiving incoming mails after the exipry date?

Greetings,
If the inbound mail handling key (receiving) expires, the appliance would stop accepting traffic. If the Bounce Verification (BV) key expires the system will still continue to process mail however the bounce verification feature will not be available and messages will not be tagged. If the feature keys for anti-spam or anti-virus expire the system will continue to process mail and scan for viruses and or spam, but no updates will be available for those features. If a Centralized Management key expires, then CMS features become unavailable and the cluster will not be able to propagate changes.

Hi,
I'm bringing this post up as I've got a question regarding the reputation filter.
Is reputation filtering part of the "Incoming Mail Handling" feature key?
In other words, our licences (AS, AV and VOF) are going to expire soon and I was wondering if the Appliance will still be checking the sender base for reputation scores?
Thanks
Arnaud
