No, tftp is the only way.
Are you able to ping the tftp server from the ASA? and also is there any firewall on the tftp server that might prevents tftp request?

Since you would like to use the version 8.3 or possibly above, i would recommend that you use the latest available on cisco download site which is asa844-1-k8.bin. This will work on ASA5505.

Hi Syed,
If you have any XP pc then you may copy hypertrm.exe and hypertrm.dll then you may use the hyperterminal by double clicking upon hypertrm.exe
Please rate if this is useful.

Can you pls share the output of "show version", and also have you had the ASDM image uploaded to the ASA?
Pls also share: "show flash" output.
And lastly, your current configuration: "show run"

Actually i am still stuck on Uploading ios through Tftp Server below mentioned is my configuration
rommon #1> ADDRESS=192.168.1.10
rommon #2> GATEWAY=192.168.1.1
rommon #3> SERVER=192.168.1.1
rommon #4> IMAGE=asa844-1-k8.bin
rommon #5> PORT=Ethernet0/1
Ethernet0/1
MAC Address: c84c.75bd.e2a4
Link is UP
rommon #6> ping server
Sending 20, 100-byte ICMP Echoes to server 192.168.1.1, timeout is 4 seconds:
????????????????????
Success rate is 0 percent (0/20)
rommon #7> ping 192.168.1.1
Sending 20, 100-byte ICMP Echoes to 192.168.1.1, timeout is 4 seconds:
????????????????????
Success rate is 0 percent (0/20)
rommon #8> ping 192.168.1.10
Sending 20, 100-byte ICMP Echoes to 192.168.1.10, timeout is 4 seconds:
????????????????????
now can you tell what is this i had already disable my firewall setting ut it is still showing me this also suggest me what should be settings of IP addresses on my PC
10-10-2012 03:54 AM
This is strange as you can't even ping the server ip address from the ASA. That means you don't even have connectivity to the server.
How do you connect the server to the ASA? and also pls ensure that you connect to ethernet0/1 as stated above. Also what cable do you use to connect the ASA and the server?
Also pls also check that the image is placed in the root directory of your tftp server.

Can we upload file in flash physically like we remove it from asa device and upload flash through card reader and place it back ? like we usully do for SDrams
10-10-2012 04:44 PM
No, unfortunately you can't do that. that is not a supported feature on ASA.

Hi Syed Sajjad,
Use ZMODEM. connect through console---Go to hyperterminal--->Goto Transfer--->SendFile-->Browse the Image and most probably You will be able to upload.
Please rate if information is helpful.
