URL Ping process results in body of email instead of clicking link

Some of our applications are monitored through URL ping process and when a failure occurs we create incident. Incident created has Automation summary with a link which shows list of failed url's. Can we send results in the body of email instead of clicking link and how can i achieve this

Thanks

Murali

Hi, Murali!

Yes, this absolutely can be achieved and in a multitude of ways but the answer also depends on whether you are using standard processes (which are part of Cisco automation packs).

If the process that monitors the URLs is your process (not part of Cisco automation packs), you could modify the process itself, so that the list of failed URLs is actually part of the incident description. The default notification process (from Cisco) makes incident description part of the email.

If the process that monitors the URL is a Cisco process, you can copy it and modify it (as above).

You might also be able create your own email notification process to include the text of the automation summary in the email, by using Web Request activity to retrieve the "content" of the automation summary first. Note that this will probably not look nice as there are a style sheets, and embedded images that might not look well in the email. Also, note that this will impact notifications for more than URL Ping process.

The process that monitors URLs is part of Cisco Automation packs. On the Incident Description i dont have an option ( Greyed out ) to select results from row table. I have attached my process to have a look. What we need is  list of failed urls captured in table that should be send to a Shared inbox.

Thanks

You can't modify Cisco process, but you can make a copy and modify the cloned version.

The process that monitors URLs is part of Cisco process. I have copied and modified it. Process works fine and in the alert email that is sent to Distribution list it sends Automation summary in a URL. I have selected "List of failed URL ping" to include in Automation Summary but still i cannot see it on the email that is being sent.

Email notification process is not an option since we send alerts based on Task Rules.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Hi,

So when you select the "select from table" based activity for your automation summary, what do you see in the auto summary? (XML web page)

It also might be more effective(now) for you to open a TAC case and work with a CSE to troubleshoot this issue and get on a webex with them :)

When i select from table activity i can see two tables in alert. I have to expand the table to see failed URL.

I am going to open a TAC case now. Thank you all for trying to help

Thanks

Murali

So you see the two tables? What is the desired visual you think you should see? What is the case #?
