This is a pretty wide open question you've asked so I'll keep it simple as there is plenty of documentation on CCO you can reference for nitty gritty details:
CCM 4 vs. CUCM 7
Windows is discarded, CUCM now runs on hardened Linux appliance (better platform stability)
End user features greatly expanded:
- Mobility is built into the application (was separate server in 4x)
- Basic presence built-in (BLF)
- Intercom
- Hunt Group Login/Logout
- Enhanced support for SIP
- Local Route Groups can reduce complexity of dial plans
Database moves from SQL to informix
DB initilization process is greatly improved
Unofficial test support for VMWare, official support coming on UCS in 8.0
CRS can no longer run co-res as it is a Windows-based solution for CCM 4
Unity 4 vs. 7
Architecture is the same
Some registry-based settings moved to SQL DB (pulled from advanced settings tool)
A number of end user feature improvements
The core of the product (IMO) hasn't drastically changed
Customers are encouraged to migrate to Unity Connection unless they need a true Unified Messaging solution (which is the primary purpose of Unity)
Runs on Windows 2003 vs. 2000
Support for Exchange 2007 mailstore integration
