CUCM 7 and VMWare / ESX

Hi all,

even if the installation of CUCM 7 on a ESX platform isn't supported - I installed it for testing and development purposes.

The installation itself worked out without any problems.

But after the successful installation, I realized, that I have no network connectivity. (I am able to ping the CUCM itself, but no other host within the same network)

When I log in and check the network via "show network eth0", I get the following output:

DHCP: disabled

Status: up

IP address: 172.31.99.14

IP Mask: 255.255.252.0

Link detected: YES

Mode: Austo disabled, full, 100MB/s

Duplicate IP: no

DNS: not configured

Gateway: 172.31.96.1

I assume, the problem ist the configuration setting concerning the "mode", because my ESX VMWARE needs auto negotiation enabled (rather that fixed full 100).

The problem is actually, even if I set this config to "auto" (by typing "set network nic eth0 auto en") the configuration of the NIC remains in the manual mode (full/100).

Thanks in advance for every hint...

Regards,

Joachim

1. If you can only run VMware on AMD processor based machine then use VMware server 1.x to create your CUCM 7.x machine.

2. Use an Intel processor based machine to run VMware 1.x or 2.x to create your 7.x image.
