Issue with ringing via Cisco IP Communicator

I have looked all over, and I'm having an issue with the ringing in CIPC.  I hear call audio fine, dial tone, key presses etc, but no ringing when a call comes in.  I have verified all my device settings, and audio/ring is set to the same device.  if i press the ring volume adjustment, no sound, if i go to user prefs and try to listen to the ring tones, no sound.  This is via a VPN connection, but if VPN is done on a different computer with CIPC, it works fine, so i know it's something on this computer.

In the sound mixer on my computer, nothing is muted.  when i press the volume adjustment for the ringer, i see windows saying it's playing the file, but still no sound.

I have uninstalled and installed the latest version of CIPC... twice.  Can anyone help me out here?

In CIPC the ringer has its own audio device setting.  Try running the audio tuning wizard that is installed with CIPC.

If you are on windows Vista/7 you can effect the same operation, and while in that state, right-click on sound icon on your taskbar and open Volume mixer. It is probably set to low volume.

Also, you can check if skype is not open at the same time?
