Meeting Place Express External Transcoding

Because MPE uses 5 ports for a G.729 call as opposed to one for G.711, I have a customer who wants to use external transcoding as suggested by the SRND. I assume this means DSP resource on a router.

Does anyone know if each call transcoded for a G.729 call to G.711 uses one channel on a PVDM2-32 or more?

Regards

PVDM2's work in flex mode by default, you will have to work it out in MIPS, a PVDM2-32 from memory has 480 MIPS,

each g729r8 channel will use 40 of these (g729a is 30), each G711 channel will use 15.

its the same sum used for call termination so each leg connected to the DSP has a cost associated to it, you will have to check on the DSP calculator but you should get 16 g729 to g711 transcoding sessions out of it.
