Phones will not register

I have a lab set up that consists of one catalyst 4507, four 3750 POE switches, and two UCM 6.1(2) servers (Pub and Sub). DHCP is not set up on any of the switches so I'm manually setting an IP address, subnet mask and TFTP address on the phone. The phone is on the same subnet as the UCM servers but the phone will not register. The phone does display "Update CTL" but once that clears I check the network settings and the IP address as well as the subnet mask is gone. Any ideas other than enabling DHCP on the switch?

enable and configure the dhcp on the CUM itself !

Actually all I needed to do was staticly assign the Default Gateway to the IP phone and it came up. Didn't think I needed to do that when the UCM servers were on the same subnet much less the same switch as the phone.
