Call flow is as below:
IP Phone -> CUCM -> GK-controlled Trunk(WAN) -> CME -> CUE voicemail pilot
Requirements:
1) CUE only accept G.711
2) To save bandwidth, we want G.729 over the WAN
Solution:
Configure transcoder on CME to translate between G.729 and G.711.
Questions:
From the test, I found out that I can register the transcoder to either CUCM or CME. Which one is a better solution in real life scenario? And why?
Thanks!
Michael

Hi,
If you have (G711 only) applications integrated in CUCM that needs to be accessed by remote phones , you should also add Transcoder in it. From your call flow, registering the transcoder in CME is correct since the CUE resides in it. Point is, resources should be locally configured to avoid excessive traffic over the wan.

True, like Paul said, resource should be close to the source.
