URL Directories update failed

Hi,

I am having a strange problem with the URL Directories. We have a CUCM cluster based on version 8.5.1.10000-26 and a mix of IP Phone like 7940, 7960, 7912, 7970 and 7911.

The customer has a centralized corporate directory accessible by a phone service properly configured and he want to remove the default directories accessible from the directories phone button: "Personal address book" and "Corporate Directory". So i went in the enterprise parameters and delete the URL Directories for both the normal and secured Phone URL Parameters and reset. After the phone reset i see that all phones have the configuration updated by checking the settings, but when i press the directories button i still see the "Personal address book" and "Corporate Directory". I can't undestand why this happen.

I tried to register an IP Communicator and when i press the directories button i don't see the "Personal address book" and "Corporate Directory" as expected by the configuration, so i tried to reset a 7970 to factory default and when it has completed the reboot i don't see anymore the "Personal address book" and "Corporate Directory".

I can't reset to factory default about one thousand of phones. My question is why the phones seem to have the right configuration by checking the settings but they still show the default cucm directories services?

Thank,

Christian

The reason you still see it on newer phones but not on older (7940/60) is due to the fact that in 7.1.x there are two services under Device > Device Settings > Phone Services:

Corporate Directory

Personal Directories

Notice both of them have "enterprise subscription" set to true so every device is automatically subscribed to it.  Also notice that the phone service URL is configured as:

Application:Cisco/CorporateDirectory

Application:Cisco/PersonalDirectory

These URLs are using the internal services provisioning so the phone will contact the server it's registered to to access the service rather than using the URL under the enterprise parameters.  7940/60 phones have to use external services provisioning so they will have to try and use the enterprise parameter directories URL, which you've removed so they do not display Corporate Directory or Personal Directories.

You can either disable enterprise subscription from those two services and update subscriptions, or you can test with a few phones by changing the services provisioning setting on the device configuration page to external.

Where'd you look to check that the URL was gone exactly?  I typically check the phone's webpage if web access is enabled to see if the URL is actually removed from the phone.  Can  you make other updates/changes to the phone that are in it's configuration file such as enabling/disabling web access, to make sure your CTL/ITL file on your phone match the signature of the configuration files severed by the TFTP server?

i looked both the phone webpage and from the settings menu on the phone, the URL Directories ins't configured but the "Personal address book" and "Corporate Directory" appear anyway.

I've another news, we have reset all phone by model. The IP Phone 7940 and 7960 are now ok, all others phones type still have the problem even if the configuration (also from the phone webpage) is correct. It seems to be a problem with all the java phone.

We tried to disable the web access on a 7970 phone, after the reset the web access was effectively disabled but still we see the "Personal address book" and "Corporate Directory". It is like if the phone are using some internal configuration for the URL Directories

The image in the attachment is a screenshot of the webpage for a 7970 localized in italian, so the URL Directories is writen URL rubriche and as it show the value is empty.

I did not know about the service provisioning parameter. I set to disable the "Corporate Directory" service and it worked!

Thank you very much joemar!
