How to edit/delete chat rooms as a CUCM admin?

I have admin access to our CUCM panels across the company. In the 4 years that we have rolled jabber out across the company, there have been users that have made chat rooms for colleges to join. Some users have left the company with the chat rooms still open but unmoderated and now only their colleges can access it, other chat rooms are just stuck in purgatory where people can see it on the list but no one can join it or delete it.

Is there away that global CUCM admin can get in there to remove these rooms? Or give ownership to someone else?

I have tried recreating a user account and jabber from someone that owned the chatroom but I was unable to join it with the same exact username and jabber device name to grant ownership.

Hello, I know this post is old, but I am still unable to use the admin controls to enter restricted rooms and remove old rooms. I used the video and followed the instructions. I enabled Group Chat System Administrator Privileges but even after waiting an hour, nothing has changed. This seems like a huge oversight that admins cant join or delete chats. Any other suggestions?

Hi @RedTechPerson ,

I am assuming this is IM&P with persistent chat, if that’s the case you can delete a chat room if you are part of the group chat administrator group in IM&P, see video min 3:50 on where to get your user added and how to manage from your Jabber the chat rooms :

I remember that as a member of the IM&P administrator group  you could delete rooms were created after you were added as an admin. I think that was on older versions, we are moving clients to  the Webex App if they don’t have a  requirement of keeping their persistent chats on-prem.

We have had good luck with Mcaffee DLP to do the same thing several of the Compliance chats applications out there have.

if this doesn’t work for you, deleting the chatrooms from the external DB is the way to go, this will have to be done via SQL with help of the compliance chat vendor you use, I recall you sometimes had to restart the XCP router service in IM&P to finally remove the groups, as you saw on the video it wasn’t necessary.

hope this helps
