Hi All,
Am unable to figure out how static pw works.
In static pw configuration, we specify the local and remote label as follows:
xconnect ip pw-id encapsulation mpls
mpls local-label remote-label
I would like to know how this local-label and remote-labels are used in the mpls network.
Does this mean there is no intermediate Provider routers between the PE routers?
Could anybody help me out ?

Hi Robert,
Normally, L2 VC will be created between PE using Targeted LDP (dynalic way of establishing the circuit). The VC labels used to identofy the VC will be advertised to remote PE via T-LDP session. Static PW is a way of seting up the L2 VC without Targeted LDP. As with this approach, we dont have the control session between PE, we need to statically define the VC labels (both local and remote) so that the PE can use to identify the VC.
If you dont have any pressing reason, it is better to go with T-LDP approach. This is dynamic approach.
To answer your specific queries,

Hi.. i like to know how it static pw works on IOS and IOS_XR device.
In IOS device, i guess, we need to enable the pw status signalling for static pw as LDP will not be running.
How about IOS_XR device?
Do we need to enabled it as LDP will not be running?
As far as i have seen, we can specify "pw-oam refresh transmit" value alone.
does this become applicable for all the PWs running in the device?
Kinldy, help me out.
