Hi Community,
I just joined a Governement institution that should be providing MPLS VPN services to all governement departments, these inlude IPT, Layer-3 and VPN service.
Their highest bandwidth on their MPLS network is 230Mbps. For some time now they have been providing VPN services without any value added services like QoS, IPT and Video. Since i came in I have reviewed their network and I was kind of disappointed to what I found.
Core links range from 16Mbps to 230Mbps and most links are running above the 70% threshold. They want to add IPT on top of this network which is additional traffic.
I have made a proposal to upgrade all core links to at least 1Gigbps at the minimum but 10Gigbps whould be ideal. What I would like to know from the forum is what methonds to you use for bandwidth capacity planning, for example if a 10Mbps is constantly running above 70% utlization, do you add 10% for an upgrade and what formula if any do you use.
Is there a best practise material one can use as reference to do capacity planning on MPLS network for bandwidth requirements?
Thanks & Kinds
