SP/BGP/MPLS - ASR 1000 vs Catalyst 6000

Dear All,

For a service provider platform, I'm wondering what's the best choice between routers and layer 3 switchs.

The boxes will have the following specifications:

Interfaces:
   about 4 x 10GigEth interfaces (no serial/POS links)

Protocols:
  IS-IS
  BGP, multihoming with full IPv4 and IPv6 internet routes
  future deployment of:
     Multicast
     MPLS L2 and L3 VPNs
     MPLS TE

Both ASR 1000 and Catalyst 6000 provide the required throughput, and the Catalyst switches can run routing protocols and MPLS too.

Which are better for these functions ?
Is there geat price difference between the two ?

Hi,

4500-x doesn’t support MPLS L2VPN &l3vpn, isis-bgp & te functions

ou may consider ME3800x ( ME 3800X-24FS with 24 Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and two 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports)

ME3800x is similar to 4924-10GE

If 12 Numbers of 10G ports are required, we will have to consider higher models

6503 model with 16 port 10G line card.
