Please follow below steps to start:

A. register your network by adding a network identity ( identity is something that will be protected by the UMbrella )
- First, determine the IP address of your network.
- Go to http://www.whatismyip.com.
- Your IP address and location are displayed. Both IPv4 and IPv6 IP addresses are displayed.
- or In Umbrella, navigate to Deployments > Core Identities > Networks.
You'll find your IP address listed at the top of the page. If you don't see your IP address, click the i (Information) icon.

1. Navigate to Deployments > Core Identities > Networks and click Add.
2.In the Add a New Network modal, give your Network identity a meaningful Network Name.
3.Select an internet protocol—IPv4, IPv6, or both.
Select a protocol based on the Umbrella IP address to which you have configured your router.
4.Add the network's IP address along with the subnet mask, usually a /32 subnet for IPv4 and /64 subnet for IPv6.
5. Click Save.
Umbrella lists your new network identity's status as Inactive. Network status only changes to Active when DNS traffic is sent to Umbrella from the network.

B. Change the DNS Settings on Your Relevant Network Device

C. Configuring your DNS directs traffic from your network to the Cisco Umbrella global network
The Umbrella IPv4 addresses are:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

The Umbrella IPv6 addresses are:

2620:119:35::35
2620:119:53::53

- Note: Turn off the automatic DNS servers provided by your ISP

D.  Verify that your DNS connections are routed through Cisco Umbrella's global network by navigating to the following page in your client's browser: https://welcome.umbrella.com/. You should see the Welcome to Umbrella page.

E. Add and configure policies: Through policies, define how Umbrella's security and access controls are applied to identities, determining whether traffic is inspected and either blocked or allowed. There are two policy types for you to consider adding:

1. DNS Policy—provide DNS-layer visibility, security, and enforcement with the ability to selectively proxy risky domains for added security.

2. Web Policy—provide URL-layer visibility, security, and enforcement of your web traffic. Umbrella's Web policy is the heart of its cloud-based Secure Internet Gateway (SIG) platform, providing URL-layer visibility, security, and enforcement to your organization's web traffic. A web policy is the collection of all rulesets in an Umbrella organization.

- In Rulesets, rules are also evaluated in a top-down hierarchy. However, rules are evaluated against one or more available identities and one or more given destinations. Simply put, rule selection is made when there is an identity AND destination match. Once a rule has been selected, the action configured on the rule is applied (i.e. allow, block, or warn).
