You can order the new essential/advantage/premier licensing and then open a licensing TAC case to have them down converted to the 2.7 licenses. These down converted licenses can be issued to the smart account or as a traditional PAK file. I would recommend migrating to smart licensing at the same time if not already using it with ISE 2.7 since it will make the whole process easier when it comes time to upgrade to 3.x.

The process is documented on this page and we can expect it to be supported until 2.7 is EOL/EOS in Sept 2024. Hopefully by then all deployments have been upgraded to 3.x.

Hi,

You would not be able to physically install it as in lic file installation. All new ISE licenses are 'smart'.

If you're already using smart licensing for your existing setup, I doubt Cisco downgrades your premier license to whatever license your 2.7 setup requests/needs from CSSM.

Still, you can test this scenario. If you already have the new licenses in your smart account, you can check to see if some of them are used by your existing setup.

Otherwise, just go with the upgrade to 3.x
