ISE CLI Password not working

Hi,

I ran into this issue where I can log into ISE GUI with Admin username 'n password (internal). When I use the same user/password on CLI, I get an error 'Access Denied'.

Could someone please assist?

Thanks everyone for your input.

I have reset CLI passwords on all VMs following the instructions given in following docs:

ISE: Password Recovery Mechanisms - Cisco

I came across this situation: my newly reset CLI password had special characters, ISE allowed me to reset the password but later wasn't able to login error: "Access Denied".

solution:

Login with the old password (that i was using before password reset)

it prompts me to change the password. set the new password without special characters, works fine.

 

Thought of sharing the experience, just in case someone else facing same issue.

Try typing "setup" at the localhost login: prompt.   I got this prompt with a new install.
