ISE license usage

On my ISE system I see more used licenses than active users or sessions.

Currently we have 127 base license in use, but only 52 live sessions and 20 active endpoints.

The ISE is used for authentication of wireless users using, 801.X,  PSK with MAC filtering and guest access (LWA).

Hi @jens.neelsen 

Have you configured RADIUS Accounting on your NAS devices?  If not, then that would explain the issue.  Sending a RADIUS Accounting Start request to ISE signals the start of a session that ISE can track for licensing purposes.  And the related Accounting Stop will tell ISE to release the license for that endpoint.  It's the "civilised" way of license management.  If you don't use RADIUS Accounting then you will consume a license whenever a successful Authentication/Authorization has occurred, and that license will stay in use for up to 5 days.  ISE then releases the license after 5 days.
