ISE - network devices

Running ISE 2.1. Yes I know it's outdated but for reasons I won't go into here I can't upgrade.

If I use the Context Visibility drop down menu and select network devices that list contains devices I no longer have on the network. Is there anyway to remove them? These seem to correspond to dashboard items and it's slightly annoying that dashboard info shows up for stuff that no longer exists.

It seems to be a different list then Administration > Network Resources > Network deices. That list I can delete from. The Context Visibility list lets me check the items but I don't see a delete or any other options for that matter.

This could be related to one of the various past bugs associated with the Context Visibility database. ISE 2.1 does not provide an option to reset the CV database from the 'application configure ise' menu like some newer versions and I'm not sure that resetting any of the MnT database options will help.

I would suggest contacting TAC to determine if they can do anything to reset the CV database.

ISE 2.1 reaches end of support on 17 March 2020 so, if you're going to contact TAC, you should do so quickly.

Cheers,

Greg

Hello.

Context visibility is meant for the devices, endpoints that learned on the network through different means. Context visibility gives visibility into not only connected devices but also on the devices/endpoints that came into network earlier (like a history). For the endpoints which you no longer wanted to see on the dashboard, you could remove from context visibility or purge them.
If you have Network Access devices which is no longer existing in the network and doesn’t participate in AAA, then you are supposed to remove that device from Administration > Network Resources > Network Devices.
Please keep in mind that, if ISE gets any information from the same network access device , you would still see that device under context visibility because context visibility is about giving visibility of devices/endpoints which are on your network based on the info that ISE is getting.
