If you really want to "back up" the IOS, then go to the Cisco website and download the file from there.

Licensing cannot be "backed up".  Send an email to the License Team, along with the serial number of the appliance, and they will provide you with a new PAK.

Thank you for the clarification.

"Licensing cannot be "backed up".  Send an email to the License Team, along with the serial number of the appliance, and they will provide you with a new PAK."

Understood.

Is it the same for both the 2000 and 3000 series switches too?

My understanding was that the licence is tied to the IOS image and

that when you replace a switch, you dont have to worry about the license.

Have I been wrong all along?

How about licence for other features?

That is "old school".  Nowadays it is Cisco Smart License.

Catalyst 2960S/X/XR have fixed licenses.

Hello Leo

Thanks for the link. Its a lot clearer now.

"Catalyst 2960S/X/XR have fixed licenses."

By fixed license, you mean that the license is mapped to the serial number right?
