Access-list question about the EXIT entry

Probably a newbie type question but I often see EXIT typed at the bottom of access-lists samples I am studying.  What is the function of the EXIT entry?  Wondering if this is something I need to start putting into my access-lists.

exit is not use only in ACL it use in any mode 
what I meaning for example 
first we have global mode THEN you enter to acl mode to return to global mode you need to add EXIT word

BTW, possibly you might also come across "end" being used.  Where "exit" will pop you back one configuration level, "end" will pop you back out of configuration mode, altogether.
