I have an ASA 5510 box and a PIX 515, both running release 8.0(4) of their respective OS's. The idea is to use the ASA as our primary unit, with the PIX as a "hot spare". While both devices have failover capabilities, simply using that is obviously not an option as the devices are not identical hardware. That said, is there any easier option for making a pseudo-failover pair than just manually updating the PIX box with any changes made to the ASA?

Unfortunately as nice as nice would be to have, it's not possible, they can not communicate as failover.

That's what I was afraid of. I was hoping that since they are running the same level OS, at the least they would be similar enough that I could do some sort of export/import of the config, but if not, then so be it. Thanks for the info!
