Hello All,
I have the unfortunate task to discover the Hardware/Software EOL + Hardware/Software manufacturers support details off one of our clients LANs
The client does have Ciscoworks LanMan - but unfortunately for me its pre dates version 3.2, so this means I cannot manually or automatically use the EOL discovery within, plus there is no funding for available for an software upgrade either.
So apart from manually shifting through each device - is there any other way I can acheive this discovery?

Hi Paul,
I'm sure there are other tools, but if you've a Linux/UNIX host which has SSH/telnet access to the devices on the LAN, then RANCID is one option. This tool can be up and running in a few hours and doesn't do a bad job of getting inventory details. And it's released under a modified BSD license so there's no cost.
This is the part numbers it collects from one of my Catalyst 6500, and as you can see, the part numbers are those that should be recognised straight from the EoS announcement.
[sfuller@rhel8 configs]$ grep PID ocs6504-1.ntilab.net | sort | uniq -c
2 !PID: CLK-7600
1 !PID: FAN-MOD-4HS
1 !PID: PWR-2700-AC/4
1 !PID: WS-C6504-E
2 !PID: WS-F6700-CFC
1 !PID: WS-F6K-PFC3A
1 !PID: WS-SUP720
1 !PID: WS-SUP720-BASE
1 !PID: WS-X6724-SFP

You could take the RANCID approach like Steve suggests. You'd still have to sort through the product IDs and cross-reference to all the EoS announcements out there.
You could also download and install a trial version of LMS. It can be used for 60 days and 100 devices without a paid license. The current releases can be up and running on a VM using the OVA distributions in a very short time.
If you're a Cisco partner, you're also eligible to get a Not-for-resale (NFR) LMS license for Cisco-funded network assessment. that license covers up to 5000 devices.
Finally, you could also have a look at SolarWinds' EoL lookup tool. I don't believe it's integrated with any of their products just yet but it may be a useful portal for you to reference.

Hello Steve-Marviin
Thanks for the feedback, looks like you have provided me with 3 very good options.
I work for a very large global IT service company so the NFR LMS licence looks the easiest way forward at this time
Much appreciated for the assistance

You're welcome. If you have partner access on your CCO ID, you can go here for more details on the CFNA program. Note specifically the Best Practices PDF in the resources section, paragraph 3.2.1, for details on getting LMS licensed that way.
