Cisco LMS and IDSM

Hello,

I can ssh from the CiscoWorks server into IDSM device. But when I 'Check Device Credential' thru device center, it is blank against ssh and 'Did not Try' for Enable By ssh.

Doing ssh into IDSM takes directly into the privileged mode.

Thanks.

LMS does not manage IDS devices.

IDSM is a software by the way for configuring your IDS.

If you are interested in IDS software, you can use CSM:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/solutions/collateral/ns340/ns394/ns171/ns625/ns647/net_brochure0900aecd80400060.html

It is not only management. LMS provides a suite of features. And IDSM is supported by LMS. It is listed when device is added via the DCR (Common Services).

I would like to use the feature provided by LMS for IDSMs

Thanks.

What do you mean by IDSM?

This is not in the supported device list for LMS:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/3.2/device_support/table/lms32sdt.html

IDS are supported by CSM as I said, and here is how you do it:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6498/products_tech_note09186a0080846d67.shtml

Ok.

If I go to the CiscoWorks LMS Portal, click Device Management under Common Services, and then click Add, and then expand Cisco Interfaces and Modules, and click Cisco Services Modules I can see the following two devices

1. Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Intrusion Detection System (IDSM-2) Services Module

2. Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Intrusion Detection System (IDSM-2) Services Module Virtual Sensor

and I can successfully add the device as well. Also, I can see the added IDSM devices in RME and DFM etc as well.

What does this mean then ?

Thanks.

Those devices are added in DCR for CSM to use them.

LMS can not provide you with monitoring for the IDS blades.

The support list for LMS has been made for this purpose: to list the devices that are supported.

So even if they are listed in DFM and RME due to adding into the DCR, would it not provide any additional features ?

Thanks.

Unfortunately not

Hello,

I am still having problems while detecting IDSM over ssh through DCR.

I can ssh from the CiscoWorks server into IDSM device. But when I 'Check Device Credential' thru device center, it is blank against ssh and 'Did not Try' for Enable By ssh.

Please assist.

Thanks.

Lms supports the devices listed in the device support list.

Yes you will keep on having problems with trying to use a not supported device.

I am only trying to add to the DCR (Common Services) where the device type - IDSM is shown. Shouldn't that be possible.

Thanks.
